Zebra Pop Cushions

Independent handmade label, Urbanknit introduces the Zebra Pop cushions which are funky black and white striped cushions with an injection of a primary coloured stripe. They are made in ‘Aso-oke’, a unique traditional woven fabric from Southern Nigeria, West Africa.

Aso-Òkè (pronounced ah-SHOW-kay) is a hand-woven textile which is thick and similar in weight and texture to canvas or denim. It is woven in strips which are usually sewn together to make clothing and is worn only during special occasions like weddings, festivals, coronations and so on. It is therefore quite a special fabric.

Each cushion features either a Yellow or a Red stripe and the two combinations work beautifully when paired together. They are a mix of traditional African textiles interpreted with a nod to the
boldness of simplicity and colour often seen in pop art.
