  • Independent Shop Feature: Folklore

Founded by Danielle Reid and Rob Reid in 2012, Folklore is a home and lifestyle store based on a simple idea that better living is possible through design.

We value integrity, simplicity and craftsmanship. We are drawn to functional goods that are created with care and made to last. The best products are the ones that age well and stand the test of time – goods that will exist long after we’re gone.

They have an online store but have a lovely little shop in Islington, London which is absolutely worth the visit. I have popped in and was immediately accosted by a certain sense of calm. The even muted tones, the soft fabrics, the natural materials used. Lovely

You really do get a sense of the quality and the craftsmanship that has gone into every product that is available. If you like simple, clear, even detailing and design, Folklore is certainly for you.

  • Independent Shop Feature: The Shop Floor Project

The Shop Floor Project was founded in 2006 by Denise Allan and Samantha Allan with the aim to design, develop and source collections of the highest craftsmanship from makers and traditional manufactures, predominately based within the UK and Europe.

They envisioned the Shop Floor Project as a series of curated spaces filled with objects that fulfill their main criteria; that the object is worthy of keeping and passing down through generations.

The website is particularly interesting as it is designed as though it is an actual shop! From the front page to the individual category pages, it is though you are walking through a myriad of interesting interior spaces full of colour an texture. It is exquisitely unique especially in the modern world of white, minimal virtual and physical spaces.

In 2011 The Shop Floor Project opened a brick and mortar store after operating in virtual space for a number of years. The store is located in Ulverston, an ancient market town in Cumbria and although I am yet to visit I am sure it is just as unique and interesting as the website. This store is literally filled with treasure so do visit! If you have been, we would love to hear about your visit.

  • Independent Shop Feature: Blackbird Vintage

This is the first in our features of independent shops. I am in search of cool, unique, quirky shops and boutiques that stock those hard to find, one-of-a-kind goodies. To get us rolling is the Blackbird Vintage shop in Leeds which is opening its doors on the 12th of July. So if you are in the area do join them for what promises to be a very fun launch party. Go along from noon and join the fun.

    Blackbird Vintage Store

Blackbird Vintage has an amazing selection of vintage furniture, lighting and interior decor pieces. They also have a selection of other design finds like jewellery, pottery and so on.

Check them out! There is something about their aesthetic and approach that completely appeals to me. It looks amazing and I can’t wait to pay them a visit. Details at the end of this post.
